Picture in Picture is a mode that can help you do other things with your smartphone while on a video call. This mode was perfectly designed for multitaskers who ran from one app to another on their phones.

How to Use WhatsApp’s Picture-in-Picture Mode

There is no need to go into your device’s settings to use the picture-in-picture mode in WhatsApp. Whenever you receive a video call from a third-party link, just tap on the preview, and the feature will be activated automatically.

The video will be at the top of your display, but you won’t be able to forward or rewind the video. You can get around that by tapping on the square at the top-right.

You’ll go into full-screen mode, and at the bottom, you can use the slider to either rewind or forward the video. To get out of full-screen mode, tap on the option that looks like four arrows pointing at each other.

The PIP mode will only work if you tap on the preview. If you select the link, you’ll be taken directly to YouTube.

Make Sure that the PIP Mode Feature Is Enabled

If you are using Android Oreo, you might want to check that you have PiP mode enabled. That could be the reason why it’s not working on your WhatsApp.

Note that this feature is not compatible with all applications, you have to check if your phone applications are updated.

How to enable Picture in Picture Mode:

  • Open your phone’s Settings.
  • Tap Apps and notifications.
  • Go to Advanced  
  • Tap on Special app access.
  • Select Picture-in-picture.
  • Choose an app from the list.
  • Tap the toggle button to enable PiP.

You would have successfully enabled Picture in Picture mode on your phone.

WhatsApp’s picture-in-picture mode is an advantageous feature since you no longer have to leave the app to watch a video of hang off a call to do other things with your phone.
